Outdoor Learning
Outdoor Learning at Its Best
At our school, we believe that learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door—in fact, some of the most powerful learning happens under the open sky. Our exceptional outdoor spaces are a vital part of our curriculum, offering children the freedom to explore, imagine, and grow in a natural environment.
From our much-loved Welly Woods, where our youngest learners in P1/2 dive into play-based discovery, to our pirate ship, car, and helicopter climbing frame, every corner of our outdoor area is designed to spark curiosity and creativity. The outdoor kitchen, creative playhouse, and a fantastic fleet of trikes and cars provide endless opportunities for imaginative play and social development.
In recent years, we’ve expanded our outdoor learning environment with exciting additions like the Nature Nook, Polytunnel, Cozy Cottage, and Wendy House—each one offering new ways for children to connect with nature and each other.
Our pupils take pride in growing a wide variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables, learning responsibility and care as they plant, nurture, and harvest their own produce. These hands-on experiences help children understand the rhythms of the natural world and the importance of sustainability.
Older pupils in P5/6 take their learning even further afield with Forest School sessions in Garvagh Forest every term. These sessions build resilience, teamwork, and a deep appreciation for the environment.
We also use our outdoor spaces for Shared Education and cross-curricular activities, making the most of every opportunity to learn through nature.
At our school, the outdoors is more than just a playground—it’s a living classroom, a place of wonder, and a space where children thrive.
