🌿 Eco Council at Gorran Primary School

Caring for our world, one small step at a time.

At Gorran Primary School, we are passionate about protecting our planet and helping our pupils become responsible, eco-conscious citizens. Our commitment to sustainability was proudly recognised when we were awarded our first Green Flag in May 2018, and again when we successfully renewed it in January 2020—a testament to the hard work and dedication of our whole school community.

🌱 Meet Our Eco Council

Our Eco Council is made up of enthusiastic representatives from P1 to P7, each one elected by their classmates. These young leaders meet regularly to share ideas, raise awareness, and take action on environmental issues that matter to them. They learn how to:

  • Take minutes and lead discussions
  • Represent their peers’ views
  • Plan and deliver eco-friendly initiatives
  • Report back to their classes with updates and decisions

Being part of the Eco Council helps pupils build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of responsibility for the world around them.

🌍 What We’ve Achieved Together

Our Eco Council has led and supported a wide range of exciting projects, including:

  • ♻️ Recycling tyres and pallets to help create our magical Welly Woods outdoor learning space—with help from our talented parents!
  • 🌸 Planting and maintaining raised flower beds to brighten our school grounds and support pollinators
  • ☀️ Installing solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint and promote renewable energy
  • 🦔 Creating a hedgehog house, bird boxes, feeders, and a bird table to encourage local wildlife and biodiversity

🌟 Why It Matters

At Gorran, we believe that small actions can lead to big change. Through our Eco Council, pupils learn that they have the power to make a difference—not just in school, but in their homes, communities, and the wider world.

Together, we are building a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future—one idea, one project, and one pupil at a time.
